The restoration of Hotel Casa de la Botica was conducted in two stages under the supervision of architect Hector Calderón Bozzi. The first stage began in 2004 and involved the wing of the Botica that is adjacent to Calle 9. The second stage, involving the wing that is adjacent Carrera 6, was completed in 2010.
Hotel Casa de la Botica is a building with colonial and republican influences. Both wings of the Hotel feature an entrance room, called a “zaguan”, which leads through a portico, the most significant element of its colonial design, to a central courtyard and fountain surrounded by guest rooms and suites. The building incorporates adobe walls, measuring up to one meter in thickness, within a timber framework supporting a clay roof. Republican influences can be seen on the second floor, which was built in the late 19th century to serve as a private home. These influences include the extensive use of balconies, stained glass and wood floors. Many of the original windows, doors, wood beams, adobe bricks and clay roof tiles were restored and reused during the renovation process.
